The 10th-annual Museum Day returns to the Valley on Saturday, Sept. 27, presented by Smithsonian magazine. Doors will be open free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and www.Smithsonian.com visitors at museums and cultural institutions nationwide.

In the Phoenix area, participating venues include the Heard Museum (www.heard.org) and Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park (www.pueblogrande.com).

The Heard, located at 2301 N. Central Ave., is dedicated to the sensitive and accurate portrayal of Native arts and cultures, successfully combining the stories of American Indian people from a personal perspective with the beauty of art. Note that a $5 per person gate fee is charged for admission to BUILD! Toy Brick Art at the Heard, on display through Sept. 28. Museum members do not pay this fee.

In honor of Museum Day, Pueblo Grande Museum, 4619 E. Washington St., will have gallery tours and artifact show-and-tell stations available throughout the day. The museum will be open its normal hours of operation, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; donations are welcome.

Visit http://www.smithsonian.com/museumday to download your Museum Day Admission Card at your venue of choice, good for two people. Attendees must present the Museum Day Admission Card to gain free entry to participating institutions.
