The St. Paul’s School House was not much more than a thatched, poorly constructed one-room building, but it was school to some 200 children in Gascogne, Haiti. Now the school children have a beautiful, large building with many classrooms, a solid roof and stable construction.

These are the fruits of the labors of All Saints’ Church and Day School and those who participated in the North Central Family 5K last year.

This year, the race is slated for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3 and will be a regular fixture on the first Saturday of May going forward. While the emphasis is on fun, fitness, and family, the donations from the registration and sponsorships go to a higher purpose.

Everyone is invited to this race, including serious runners—it is an officially sanctioned event by USA Track and Field and timed by Raceplace Events. The race, which includes a more leisurely 1-mile Fun Run, also is great for families, individuals, children, people with dogs, people in wheelchairs, babies in strollers … you name it, all are welcome.

The race starts and finishes at the All Saints’ campus located at 6300 N. Central Ave. Registration fees are $35 for ages 12 and older, and $10 for ages 11 and younger. On-site registration opens at 6:30 a.m.

All race details are available at www.ncf5k.org. Dust off your running shoes, sign up, get the T-shirt, have fun, and help youth in North Central Phoenix and in Gascogne, Haiti.
