KidsRead USA, a unique early childhood literacy program that buys new books for economically disadvantaged children, will launch a creative fundraiser this month in partnership with select Valley restaurants.

Independent Valley restaurateurs who serve pizza or flatbread are being asked to donate $1 from each pizza sold from Oct. 10-20 to buy books for third graders whose impoverished parents cannot afford to buy books for their children. Pizzeria Bianco is sponsoring the event while participating restaurants include: Arcadia Farms, Lon’s at the Hermosa Inn, Maizie’s, Central Bistro, St. Francis, Tarbell’s, and Vincent on Camelback.

To promote the event, posters and menu inserts will be supplied to each restaurant.

Founded in 1996 by author and journalist Eileen Bailey, KidsRead has given away more than 29,000 books to children attending seven elementary schools in the Osborn and Balsz School Districts. For more information, visit www.kidsreadusa.org.
