In Arizona, an increasing number of older adults are now the primary caregivers for their grandchildren or other juvenile family members. Many of these individuals are retired or don’t have the finances to give a child the luxuries of taking special classes, attending summer camp and participating in school activities. That’s where nonprofit Duet steps in.

Duet offers unique respite assistance for grandparents raising grandchildren. For individuals who are 55 years or older, Duet may be able to pay for part or all of the registration or tuition fees for various activities.

Grandparents must be able to demonstrate they are raising their grandchildren to receive these funds. Additional free-of-charge services are available for grandparents raising their grandchildren such as support groups, seminars and legal services.

This is an ongoing process. However, Duet will be spending a great amount by the end of June on grandparents raising grandchildren who are in need of financial assistance. To apply for funds, call Patricia Dominguez at 602-274-5022, ext. 31 or email dominguez@duetaz.org.
