Serving our country abroad often means not having the comforts of home nearby. To help support the troops serving overseas, Humana associates held a donation drive to collect some of these comfort items along with much-needed essentials.

Close to 5,000 items were collected by Humana associates and donated to HandsOn Greater Phoenix, a local service nonprofit, on Sept. 10 in honor of the nonprofit’s annual 9/11 Week of Service and Remembrance. Across the country, 9/11 is a National Day of Service (911day.org). Donations ranged from food, such as peanut butter and ramen noodles, to personal hygiene items, such as toothpaste, eye drops, deodorant and toilet paper.

In addition, HandsOn Greater Phoenix received a $1,000 check from Humana to help provide the necessary repairs to Handy, the truck utilized by the nonprofit to transport items to and from its various service projects around the Valley.
