Guests will step back in time to experience a pivotal moment in history as The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute re-creates a historic White House dinner featuring Winston Churchill scholar Cita Stelzer. Stelzer is the author of “Dinner With Churchill: Policy Making At The Dinner Table.” The evening, set for Saturday, Oct. 17, will be moderated by Sen. Jon Kyl.

The event will take guests back to December 1941. On the same day as the Dec. 7 attack on Pearl Harbor, Great Britain was also struck by Japan at British Hong Kong. In the wake of these attacks, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill sailed on a top-secret and dangerous 10-day transatlantic voyage to meet with President Franklin Roosevelt. The fate of the world hung in the balance.

Over the course of Churchill’s three-week day stay at the White House, he and President Roosevelt would craft the “Grand Alliance,” to join nations together to defeat Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany during World War ll.

“Dinner With Churchill” will take place in the Arizona Ballroom at the landmark Camelback Inn, which opened in 1936. To honor this significant time in history, the chefs of the Camelback Inn will re-create the White House dinner menu prepared for President Roosevelt and Prime Minister Churchill on Dec. 25, 1941.

Individual seats are $250. Guests will receive a copy of Stelzer’s book. In the spirit of Winston Churchill, who preferred to dress for dinner, attire will be black tie optional. Tables and event sponsorships are also available. To purchase online, visit www.OConnorInstitute.org. For more information, call 602-730-3300 or e-mail info@OConnorInstitute.org.
