The North Mountain Visitor Center has launched a Desert Guppy Reading Program for school-aged children and their adult loved ones.

Future engineers, educators, librarians, geologists, park rangers, nature lovers, artists, writers etc., are invited to participate in the free program, held inside the Reading Room at the center. Children can choose from a wide selection of books, cuddle up with an adult family member on the couch, and read a book about nature, weather, Native Americans, recycling, dinosaurs, coyotes, snakes, water, desert life, and of course, rocks! Books cannot be checked out and must be read in the Reading Room.

For every book you read to your child or your child reads to you, he or she will receive one of the center’s very special rocks, including selenite rose, turquoise, volcanic gas steam bubbles, and many more. Collect all 10 and receive a free book of your choice.

The North Mountain Visitor’s Center is located at 12950 North 7th St. For more information, including what days and hours the program is available, call Kathy at 602-689-8449 or visit www.northmountainvisitorcenter.org.
