Oct. 15 marks the beginning of the Medicare open enrollment season and the gluttony of television commercials promoting the “alphabet soup” of Medicare options. Eligible seniors many need help to navigate through the confusion of how Medicare works and answer some of the most common questions associated with Medicare, including: What is included in Part A; do you have to buy Part B; and do you have a drug plan included in your Medicare plan, or do you need to purchase a Part D prescription plan?

Seniors also may be confused as to whether they are entitled to receive Medicare free of charge when they turn 65, if they have previously paid into the Social Security system.
