Three clothing boutique concepts opened their doors last month inside the Uptown Plaza shopping center, the landmark midcentury shopping center at the northeast corner of Central Avenue and Camelback Road. Each offers something different to the discerning clothes shopper.

Local Nomad, which opened Oct. 15, is a locally owned clothing, jewelry and accessories boutique that features stylish yet sustainably made goods from around the world as well as right here in Arizona. It is located at 100 E. Camelback Road, Ste. 168.

Local Nomad is the brainchild of Lauren Danuser, an avid traveler and former retail buyer for Gap Inc., who relocated from San Francisco with her husband (a Phoenix native) to fulfill her lifelong dream of opening her own clothing accessories and jewelry shop for men, women and children.

Local Nomad offers an eclectic collection of accessories, including international fair trade certified leather bags imported from Kenya, organic hand-knitted baby rattles from Peru and classic, colorful Kanken children’s backpacks from Sweden. The shop also offers a carefully curated collection of all-American and Arizona-made products, including incense, aromatic room sprays and white sage smudge sticks from Juniper Ridge in Northern California, as well as hand-cut brass wall hanging from Arizona’s Bright Star & Buffalo.

Local Nomad is open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sundays though Thursdays, and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Follow the shop at www.facebook.com/localnomadshop.

Local entrepreneurs Steve and Andi Rosenstein of The Duce and R&R Surplus opened their new flagship clothing store on Oct. 21 inside Uptown Plaza at 252 E. Camelback Road.

Currently sold in more than 500 specialty boutiques, high-end fitness clubs and luxury spas and resorts, R&R is an offshoot of the Rosensteins’ original clothing boutique, Fitigues, which they launched in their native Chicago in 1988. After relocating to Phoenix in 2001, the couple started looking to recreate the historic urban vibe of the Windy City and discovered it with The Duce and R&R Surplus, a bar/restaurant/event space/boxing gym/clothing boutique carved into a 1928 building in downtown Phoenix. And now R&R Surplus has expanded to Uptown Plaza. To see store hours and for more information, visit www.randrsurplus.com.

Fashion Boutique Scout & Molly’s celebrated the opening of its newest franchise location on Oct. 22 at 100 E. Camelback Road in Suite 120. The women’s apparel store offers upscale designer women’s clothing as well as original chic designs and is one of many opening across the country over the next few months.

Scout & Molly’s, founded in 2002 in Raleigh, N.C., is merchandised with a simple rule in mind: “No style fits all,” which is why maintaining individuality while dressed in the latest trends, is a necessity for all of its customers.

In addition to beautiful designs, Scout & Molly’s will offer a free styling program.
