From the outside, it was a fairly nondescript home with wooden shutters and some overgrown weeds. But inside, animal rescuers found a horrifying secret. Dozens of cages, lined with filth and feces, consumed the house where Odie and 65 other pets were forced to live. The conditions were revolting and the stench was appalling. Their food was rotten and mold festered in their water bowl.

Police officers assisted animal rescuers in saving all of the pets who were then medically treated at the Arizona Humane Society. The owner was charged for animal abuse and now Odie and the others can now start a new life.

Despite his difficult past, Odie remains resilient. After spending his first 7 years alone and isolated in a cage, the Yorkshire terrier relishes cuddle time, enjoys leisurely walks, savors treats of any kind and is quickly adapting to the life as a “normal” dog. He had a blast on his first car ride with volunteers where he lapped up a puppuccino (a small cup of whip cream) and quickly made many friends on the coffee shop patio.

Odie offers nothing but unconditional love and gratitude to anyone who offers him a forever home. Meet him today at the Sunnyslope campus located at 9226 N. 13th Ave. His adoption fee is $350 and includes his medical treatment, grooming, neuter surgery and vaccinations.

For more information, call 602-997-7585 and ask for animal number A544125. He may have been adopted by the time you visit the shelter but there are hundreds of other pets just like him in need of a home and you can see them all by visiting www.azhumane.org.
