Otsukimi, or Japanese moonviewing, is a traditional Japanese celebration of the full moon. It is celebrated every year at the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix, 1125 N. 3rd Ave. Due to high demand for this event, set for Oct. 6-7, tickets are expected to sell out fast.

The garden will be lit up with candles and luminaries. There will be live music, and traditional Asian food will be available for purchase. Japanese tea serving also will take place at an additional cost. Guests will be served authentic Japanese matcha tea by volunteers dressed in kimono in the tea garden. The cost for tea service is an additional $5-$10 and can be purchased at the event. Space is limited.

Hours are 6:30-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 general in advance and $30 at the gate. Youth ages 3-12 pay just $5; admission is free for kids ages 2 and younger. Tickets are available at www.japanesefriendshipgarden.org. For more information, call 602-274-8700.
