The American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to help with next month’s Sound the Alarm campaign, where an anticipated 1,000 free smoke alarms will be installed in at-risk homes within the Pendergast School District boundary, which is south of Glendale Avenue to approximately McDowell Road, and west of 83rd Avenue to approximately 117th Avenue.

Fire experts agree that you may have as little as 2 minutes to escape a burning home before it is too late to get out. Smoke alarms cut the risk of death from a fire in half.

Volunteers will be going door-to-door installing the free smoke alarms from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. The goal is 500 volunteers to visit 4,000 homes.
