The North Phoenix Kiwanis Club is organizing its 26th-annual Walk-A-Thon, and is in the process of recruiting teams that will collect pledges and actually participating in the walk. Teams can be as small as four or as big as 40.

The walk takes place 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Metrocenter Mall, 9617 N. Metro Parkway W., and proceeds are shared between the individual team organizations and the Kiwanis Club. Walkers set off inside the mall near the food court, next to Harkins Theaters.

The Walk-A-Thon raises funds for local programs aimed at supporting children in the community who are less fortunate and in need of a helping hand. Specific programs supported include: foster children, Title 1 schools’ after school activities, Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts for needy families, as well as college scholarships for local graduating students.

In addition, corporate sponsors are being sought. Sponsorship amounts range from $250 to $2,500. Donations are 100 percent tax deductible.
