Michael Young and Beth Boyd last month received the Partnership Award from the American Red Cross Greater Phoenix Chapter.

Young, a North Central resident, serves as the Volunteer Partner of Beth Boyd, Regional Disaster Services Officer. Boyd oversees Disaster Services programs, including Preparedness, Response and Recovery for Arizona, New Mexico and three Texas counties.  They were among 11 Valley residents who were recognized at the Red Cross annual volunteer awards ceremony April 22.

Young deployed for 17 days during Hurricane Irma, completing over 180 volunteer hours. When he returned, he shared with Boyd about how to better prepare volunteers for their next deployment. Boyd spent several weeks on deployment for Hurricane Harvey.

As Boyd’s Volunteer Partner, Young attended meetings with community partners, facilitated calls with regional Disaster Services staff and volunteers, and participated in calls with National Headquarters to learn updates and best practices for the department.

Young, 71, said he volunteers for the Red Cross because he wants to be of service to others.
