A new preschool that teaches children with and without autism in a transdisciplinary approach is already seeing positive benefits for its young students.

Young Mind Community Center (YMCC) opened late last year at 3202 E. Mountain View Road. The preschool, for children ages 18 months to 5 years, was founded by Sara Mertel, an early education specialist, and Amanda Wood, a well-known Valley psychologist and respected autism assessment expert.

Wood and Mertel were driven to change early autism intervention in Phoenix. Their mission is to bring together expertise in autism and early childhood education in order to deliver the best possible outcomes for young children—with and without autism.

The school’s highly skilled team includes experts from early childhood education, psychology, behavior analysis, speech and language pathology and occupational therapy.

There are still spots available for the fall term. Learn more at youngmindcommunity.org or call 602-237-6653.
