Gorton wins essay contest Henry Gorton, 9, a fourth grader at Madison Heights Elementary School, was named the winner of Phoenix Public Library’s “Yours to Explore” essay contest for kids and teens.  As the kids’ division winner of the Phoenix Public Library’s recent essay contest, Henry Gorton received a “Love Your Library” canvas book bag from the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library filled with a T-shirt, books, notecards, $20 Friends Place gift certificate, bookmarks, passes to Arizona Science Center’s Narnia exhibit and other fun things (submitted photo). The contest invited kids, ages 6-11, to write an essay about “Which superhero would you like to explore Phoenix Public Library with and why?” For teens, ages 12-18, the essay was, “Which rock star would you like to explore Phoenix Public Library with and why?” Gorton was the winner for the kids’ category. He wrote about exploring the library with a “Watcher,” a character in the “Fantastic Four” comics. The 87 entries were judged on originality, composition and creativity. The winning essays can be read on phoenixpubliclibrary.org. |
