Best Glass offers free windshield chip repair

Bob Hittenberger, founder and owner of Best Glass, knows that everyone is feeling the pinch from the sluggish economy right now. So why is Hittenberger giving away his services for free?

Specifically, for one day only this month, Best Glass will repair windshield stone chips for anyone who comes by the shop, located at 5049 N. 7th Ave., for no charge. Nada. Zip.

Hittenberger emphasizes that this is no gimmick or bait-and-switch. No money or insurance information is going to change hands. Just show up and get a free chip repair.

“We know it’s tough out there right now. A lot of folks just don’t have the extra cash to repair their windshield but if they don’t those chips will run out and it will cost them even more.

“We wanted to do something nice for the neighbors who have been so good to us over the past 18 years so we said, ‘Why not do free chip repairs?’”

If you are one of the unfortunate motorists who gets a “star” on your windshield from a wayward stone, you have two options: fix it fast or leave it and hope it doesn’t spread to a long, ugly crack across your windshield. Once that happens the only choice is to replace it. If you have insurance with glass coverage, you’re in luck. Without insurance you’re going to be out of pocket from $200 to $300 for a new windshield.

“In this economy with money tight and insurance rates going up, a stone chip in your windshield can be a real pain in the neck and if ignored, a pain in the wallet too,” Hittenberger says.

From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, you can have your “starry” windshield fixed for free. You can not only save some money, but help the environment as well.

“Every windshield we can repair instead of replace is one less going into the trash,” Hittenberger points out. “It’s unfortunate, but windshields aren’t recyclable so if they can’t be saved they just add to the ever-expanding landfill.”
