Free workshop on senior health issues |
“Health for a Lifetime,” a series of free workshops presented by the city of Phoenix Human Services Department Senior Services Division and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, presents health information for older adults and the community. The next workshop, “Treatment of Elder Issues: New Science and Techniques,” will be 10-11 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Devonshire Senior Center, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave. Maggie Varland, neuroscience program coordinator at Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, will discuss treatment options for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. The disease is not completely understood but is a relatively common disease with a slow onset. Patients with the disease suffer from shuffling, dementia and incontinence and are unaware the symptoms are related to accumulated fluid in the brain. Future monthly workshops will include information about nutrition, cardiac care and the latest cancer treatments. The workshops are free and open to the public. For more information, call 602-262-7807.
