Jewish Federation gives joy of reading
More than 300 children’s books were delivered to Madison Heights Elementary School in October as result of Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix Literacy Project’s dedication to maintaining an ongoing book drive.

Accepting the books were Volunteer Coordinator and Reading Recovery Teacher Maggie Kraft.

The books donated will be used for tutor libraries at the District’s K-4 schools so that volunteer reading tutors will have a resource library to use when they tutor. Some books also will be given to needy students that don’t have books at home. Approximately 120 students will participate in this year’s program.

The book delivery was the result of the Literacy Project’s effort to help build good libraries for schools that lack book budgets sufficient enough to provide quality books for their school and classroom libraries. The book drive has become a featured community service opportunity at all Federation division events and has become a component of the Federation’s Mitzvah Always Program, a year-round program that informs, encourages, and connect individuals to community services projects throughout the Valley.
