Tour the Military Memorial Park
Now that the weather is cooling down, don't miss this rare opportunity to visit a unique piece of Phoenix history: Smurthwaite House and Pioneer & Military Memorial Park.

The Pioneer & Military Memorial Park, located near the State Capitol, at 1400 W. Jefferson, will again be open for public tours hosted by the Pioneers’ Cemetery Association. The cemeteries will open at 11 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29.

These seven historic cemeteries date back to 1884 and were closed for burials in 1914. They are home to many early Arizona pioneers and statesmen.

The 108-year-pld Smurthwaite House, a fine example of shingle-style architecture, also at this site, will be open to visitors.

There is free parking at the cemeteries and nearby buildings. For more information, visit www.azHistCemeteries.org, or call 602-534-1262.
