Home, garden events a feast for senses

If you are looking for inspiration for your yard or ways to beatify your home inside and out, there are three events this month that are sure to delight the senses.

            Ten magnificent Valley homes will be the center of attention on Sunday March 7, during the John Brooks Tour For Life self-guided home tour benefiting Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS. The featured homes range from high-rise urban living condominiums to mountainside desert escapes. The self-guided tour begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.

            The Master Gardener volunteers from the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Maricopa County will hold the ninth-annual Real Gardens for Real People Tour 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 13.

View the home gardens of certified Master Gardeners in Phoenix’s historic  Central Corridor. The self-guided tour begins at the Montessori Center School garden at 8625 N. 19th Ave., where tickets can be purchased for $20. Tickets also will be available in advance at Melrose Pharmacy, 704 W. Montecito Ave.

            The annual Fine Art in the Garden event is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3651 N. 56th St. Nearly two dozen local artists will showcase their works, spread throughout the church’s garden setting. You will see oils, pastels, watercolors, art glass, pottery, prints, quilts, weavings, sculpture and jewelry.

            Refreshments will be provided, and each artist will donate a piece of art to be raffled off at day’s end. For more information, call 602-246-9779.
