Kiwanis honor local students

Six local students were honored by the Kiwanis Club of Sunnyslope during its “Student of the Month” luncheon on Jan. 12 at Sunnyslope High School.

Honored as Students of Month were seventh-grader Allyson Lidstrom, and eighth-grader Sean Sherwood from Sunnyslope School. Lidstrom was praised for her patience, her positive attitude and her leadership qualities. Her favorite subject is math and she plays basketball as well as the flute.

Sherwood, who plays basketball and football, was recognized for his strong work ethic, his willingness to participate, and for working well in a team. He hopes to someday join the military.

From Royal Palm Middle School, seventh grader Miranda Bacon and eighth grader Sheila Barron Flores were recognized. Bacon is taking advanced algebra, the equivalent of a ninth-grade class, and maintaining an A. She also is artistically talented and always has a positive attitude.

Flores was described as a positive role model who is caring, giving, always volunteering in class and always giving 100 percent to whatever she does.

From Sunnyslope High School, senior Heather Carneal was honored. Carneal had the rare honor of being made a yearbook editor in her junior year, and went on to serve as editor again her senior year. She is a proven leader who is adept at keeping herself and everyone else on task with an upbeat attitude. Carneal plans to attend Arizona State University to study business management.

From Central High, Christy Solis was recognized. Solis is this year’s Key Club president. She goes above and beyond in both her school work as well as her volunteer commitments, and is a well-organized, efficient leader. Solis plans to attend the University of Arizona to study either nursing or accounting.
