YWCA Maricopa County Offers Financial Literacy Program for Women

New YWCA Economic Advancement Program Serves Valley Women

Dana Campbell Saylor, chief executive
officer of the YWCA Maricopa County, has announced the kick-off of the very
first YWCA Wi$eUp  Financial Literacy Class.  It is the first of three,
nine-week series designed to encourage financial literacy among women.

"The YWCA Maricopa County is committed to equipping women with the vital
knowledge necessary to ensure fiscal literacy, economic sustainability, and
financial equality. This program supports the YWCA Maricopa County's mission
of empowering women by implementing inspiring educational programming which
encourages women to take proactive steps to secure financial sustainability
for themselves and their families," said Saylor.

The first nine-week curriculum covers Money for Life, Money Math, Money
Basics, Credit in a Money World, Savings Basics, Insurance and Risk
Management, Becoming an Investor, and Achieving Financial Security.  In
addition, one volunteer speaker, a highly experienced financial
professional, for each week will join the class discussion and talk about
financial matters relating to that week's topic.

The YWCA Wi$eUp Financial Literacy Program is one of three programs designed
to promote the YWCA Maricopa County Economic Advancement Program.

The YWCA Economic Advancement Program (YEAP) of the YWCA Maricopa County
seeks to serve its mission of empowering women and eliminating
discrimination by fostering proactive educational programs and community
collaborations focused on creating positive systemic change addressing wage
equality.  Aligned with the YWCA Maricopa County's mission, YEAP serves to
promote women's growth through educational programming and advocacy that
develops peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.

"We know that nationally, women earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by a
man; thus, resulting in a lower gross income for single income and dual
income families alike," said Saylor.  "Over a lifetime, women can expect to
loose from $700,000 to $2 million dollars.  These lost funds mean women have
less for child care, general health care, housing costs, education and
significant other care necessities."

Classes begin March 19, 2008 and are held weekly.  For nine-weeks, students
will meet on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Classes will
be held at the YWCA Maricopa County and cost $65.00 per nine-week session.
This price includes all 9 classes, financial planning toolkit, refreshments
and the YWCA Wi$eUp Handbook.
