| Church holds film festival |
|
Pastor Jerry Ebbinga of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church believes many people throughout the world find their way into conversations about faith as a result of viewing films at theaters or at home with video tapes or DVDs. Consequently, the church began a film festival last month, which continues in July.
“These evenings around films will help discern the theology going on in films, develop an enhanced understanding of the art form of film, encourage an appreciation of the interweaving of cinematography and theology, and how they might help us understand our own life experiences,” Ebbinga explains. Remaining films take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and include: • July 9–“The Shipping News” (R), a film that pushes the viewer into the depths of what it might mean to be resurrected. • July 16–”Jesus of Montreal,” looks at Jesus and culture in the most uncomfortable and engaging way of any Jesus film. Group discussion follows each film. Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 801 E. Camelback Road. For more information, call the church office at 602-265-3394. |
