AT THE LIBRARY: What's happening

Free workshops for job seekers

Two local Phoenix Public Library locations will offer a series of free career workshops designed to help young adults, ages 16-25, find the perfect job. The three-part series, titled “From Stress to Success,” will cover job searching and applying for a job, writing a résumé and cover letter, and interviewing.

Workshop I–Job Searching and Applications, will take place: 4-6 p.m. Aug. 14 at Cholla Library, 10050 Metro Pkwy. E., or 4-6 p.m. Aug. 15 at Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave.

Workshop II–Résumés and Cover Letters, is set for 4-6 p.m. Aug. 21 at Cholla Library, or 4-6 p.m. Aug. 22 at Burton Barr.

Workshop III–Interviews, closes out the program 4-6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Cholla Library, or 4-6 p.m. Aug. 29 at Burton Barr.

Free events at Acacia

The Friends of the Library-Acacia Chapter meets at 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month for a short review of library business, followed by a book discussion. The Aug. 20 gathering will feature a discussion of  “The Maltese Falcon” as well as a showing of the 1941 film of the same title, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. Free.

The Acacia Bookworms Book Club meets the first Wednesday evening of each month. Join them to discuss Edith Wharton’s “House of Mirth” 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 3. Call 602-319-4647 for information.
