Activities, fun offered at JFCS

The nonprofit JFCS Center for Senior Enrichment is a place where adults age 60 and older (and physically challenged adults of any age) can come to socialize, eat a tasty kosher lunch Monday-Friday ($4), and take advantage of a variety of free and low-cost classes.

• Water Colors & Drawing, with artist/teacher Toni Hungerford—long-time Valley resident, will teach art to seniors on 9 a.m. Wednesdays. This drawing class explores the concepts of line, value, shading and composition.  Create drawings that reflect your individual style, working from life and photographs in charcoal and pencil.  There is a $3 weekly charge for this class that includes supplies.

• Fallen Feathers Bird Sanctuary—Jody Kieran will be bringing some of her best, feathered friends with her. Thursday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.

• Self-Defense Class—presented by Mike Hayashi, M.Ed., 7th degree black belt instructor, 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18.

• Mamma Rifkah—Introduction to the mystic of Tarot Cards (only the Jewish ones) 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Programs are free, unless otherwise indicated. The Center is located at 1118 W. Glendale Ave., inside the Beth El Congregation, Social Hall. For more information or to register for a program, call 602-943-2198.
