Heart-healthy workshops at Devonshire

A series of free, monthly heart-healthy workshops for older adults and the community will be presented by the city of Phoenix Human Services Department Senior Services Division and the Arizona Heart Institute.

A workshop, titled “Aneurysms and Endoluminal Graft,” will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Devonshire Community Center, Multipurpose Room, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., presented by Teresa Capriotti, clinic nurse manager, RN, for the Arizona Heart Institute.

Capriotti, with more than 20 years of experience in cardiovascular medicine, will explain the causes, symptoms and diagnosis for aneurysms, a ballooning in the wall of an artery. She also will discuss a minimally invasive procedure using an endoluminal graft that often can help repair the aneurysm.

Another workshop, titled “The Latest Advances in Cardiovascular Disease,” will be presented at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Devonshire Community Center, Arts and Crafts Room, by Dr. Grayson H. Wheatley III, cardiovascular surgeon for the Arizona Heart Institute.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among Americans. Wheatley, who has a special interest in endovascular surgery, minimally invasive cardiovascular surgery and valve repair, will explain the latest advances in technology and how these procedures could save your life.

Future presentations will include stress management, disease management through the cardiac conditioning program, and diet and exercise.  Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 602-495-3785
