Heart-healthy events at center

A series of free, monthly heart-healthy workshops for older adults and the community is being presented by the city of Phoenix Human Services Department Senior Services Division and the Arizona Heart Institute.

A workshop on stress management will be presented by Shelbi Cavalar, exercise physiologist at the Arizona Heart Institute, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Devonshire Community Center, Arts and Crafts Room, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave.

Stress is normal in the lives of all individuals.  The body needs a certain amount of stress to function properly. However, stress becomes a problem when the body is forced to maintain a state of tension over a long period of time without release.  Attendees not only will learn how the body responds to stress but also how to cope with stress, which is a crucial factor when it comes to managing heart disease.

Future presentations will include Heart Disease 101 and Risk Factors, Signs and Symptoms of Cardiovascular Disease.  Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 602-495-3785.
