Chavez, a member of Central’s National Honor Society, was praised for being dedicated and motivated to succeed. She plans to major either in pre-med or international studies at the University of Evansville in Indiana.

The Kiwanis honor outstanding students each month as a way of applauding their academic and leadership successes and encouraging them to continue to set an example for their fellow students. All students receive a framed certificate, a pen, a bumper sticker and a T-shirt. Chavez also received a $100 savings bond.
