Local youth designs PCH holiday card
Phoenix Children’s Hospital has kicked off the season with the premiere of the 2008 holiday cards that went on sale Nov. 1.  Cancer kids’ have personally designed these cards making for an easy decision for families and friends to choose their holiday card of choice for the season. Among them is North Central resident Alma Chandler, 18.

North Central Phoenix teen Alma Chandler had her ‘Holiday House’ drawing (inset) selected as one of the designs for Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s annual holiday boxes of cards (photos courtesy of Phoenix Children’s Hospital).

Chandler was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Chandler became more familiar with a hospital than she wanted to. At age 12 she was injured in a fire and suffered burns over 22 percent of her body. But, Alma is a fighter … and not just figuratively. She also is a two-time state champion in Judo. This resilient teen is currently undergoing chemotherapy, and says that someday she wants to be a pediatric nurse so she can work with kids who have cancer. She knows her own experiences will help to inspire them and keep them positive.

The holiday card designs for the 2008 Art Project will support the Hospital’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
