Neighborhood group launches Web site
The Phoenix Central Neighborhood Association, an Internet based, not-for-profit, voluntary organization, has launched its Web site to create a dialogue with residents, property owners and those who hold a business license within its geographical boundaries of Indian School and Thomas roads and 7th Avenue and 3rd Street about business, crime, education, entertainment, politics, sports and transportation issues happening within their neighborhood.

The association encourages information sharing, so text and video content can be distributed from either their site's categorized Blogs or video broadcasts. The site incorporates the functionality of RSS (Real Simple Syndication), Google Calendar and YouTube to maximize content distribution. Alton J. Jones, Board chairman, recently started the association after identifying a need for a more cost-effective solution for sharing neighborhood news.

“The more traditional model of distributing printed neighborhood news is costly and scheduled after-hour, potluck-style meetings may not capture the small business owner nor the busy parent raising children,” Jones pointed out.

As a result, the opinions of those unable to attend go unheard and political leaders receive an unbalanced report of the needs of their community, he explained.

“Our interactive and comprehensive solution informs members by providing video and text content such as political commentary and tracking for issues affecting Country Club 187, Fairmount 262 and Park Central 685 precincts, as well as free business advertising, area bus schedules, links to purchase fare, and area crime maps,” said Jones.

The association will continue to pursue partnerships with businesses, schools, state and local government authorities that service its geographical boundaries. Visit www.PhoenixCentral.org for more information.
