If you’re worried that some of your neighbors might have loud holiday parties this year that go on into the wee hours and disrupt your sleep, fear not: the city of Phoenix has your back.
The city of Phoenix has an ordinance related to “threats to the public peace” which includes loud parties. Sometimes these parties can lead to not only excessive noise, but also obstruction of public streets (too many parked cars), public drunkenness, underage drinking, fights, and littering.
There are no “allowable” times during the day or night for any event that is considered a threat to the peace, health, safety and general welfare of the public. So if you want to call at 9 p.m., you surely can. However, you should be aware that these types of call are generally ranked lowest in priority (unless you are reporting gunshots with them). So it may take a bit for a police officer to respond. The officer has the option to give the party hosts a warning, or to immediately assess them a “police response service fee” of up to $1,000. The fee includes the salaries of the police officers who responded, based on time spent at the event, and may include any damage to city equipment.
For juvenile violators, the juvenile’s parents will be responsible for all fees and violations.
To report a loud party, illegal fireworks, numerous vehicles causing traffic hazards or blocking driveways, underage drinking, etc., call Crime Stop at 602-262-6151.
The fireworks law that went into effect in April this year now regulates when you can sell, purchase and use fireworks in our state. The penalty for selling, buying or using fireworks outside the permissible dates results in a civil fine of $1,000. To see a list of permissible fireworks for New Year’s Eve, visit www.phoenix.gov/fire/prevention, and select “Fireworks” under the Permits Required section.
Use of fireworks on preservation land owned by the city of Phoenix is a Class 1 Misdemeanor punishable with a $1,000 fine.
Please tell me what to do. I have called the PHX PD on several occasions regarding loud music coming from my neighbors house. They play the music outside and unfortunately for me, it is right next to my bedroom. I have not only called the police, but I have also tried to ask the neighbors themselves to stop. The music and parties may start at 5 or 6pm and always goes until PD shows up, usually about 3am. I would love to be able to press charges and see this go further than just the Police telling them to stop. I know the Police have more urgent matters to attend to, but when I am just trying to hear my television, or, sleep..it really is driving me over the edge.
Did you ever get a reply to comment? I have neighbors that have gone from a part once a month to a party every Sunday night. They start at about 9:30 PM and when I go to work the next morning they are still at it. Now they are throwing an occasional Wednesday night into their plans.
I have called the police. One night I called the police 4 times, they finally showed up at 9am.
Write a community concern letter from the neighborhood and have them all sign it. Mail letter without return addrrss. If the loud neighbors ignore the neighborhood letter, there is a noise ordinance law in each city look it up and file a police report and request charges. Take video with time indicated from an angle not from your house. File the neighborhood letter and video with the police report and demand charges at the station.
This is my issue as well, did you get any more info. I call the non emergency number. The music never stops. meaning, The officers don’t go over there, or the neighbors disrespect the PD so much, the turn it up.
Whenever my neighbors party, I suffer. They play very loud music on their backyard usually from 6pm to 2-3am, and unfortunately It is next to my bedroom. Tonight I called PHX PD 4 times, dispatchers told me they went out and told them to turn it down. They didn’t? We will send police out again. One dispatcher even told me there was no law in Phoenix against loud parties. ….They are having a birthday party, they should turn it down soon……That was almost 1am.
I believe there is ordinance against loud noise, I wonder why PHX PD seems to hesitate to enforce it. I feel so helpless.
There was a hiring freeze, so there are not enough officers to respond. Although the freeze has been lifted, there are still not enough officers to respond to what they consider to be things low on the totem pole. You would think, given the governor’s stay in place order and this Covid 19 going around, people would stay home. Nope. Selfish enough to throw a party and disturb the neighbors, they’re not thinking of spreading any illness.
Hahaha OMG! A bunch of babies on here!!! I played my music during the day (NO PARTIES) and people just like you complain!!! I guess we do live in a PUSSY GENERATION so I shouldn’t be surprised. Lol… But come on people! Ya know i did have a JULY 4TH PARTY (Not really it was 2 friends so don’t freak out again over the culvid BS.) HAHA. Anyways once again cops called for FIREWORKS! Really!!?? It’s JULY 4TH PEOPLE!!! GTFO IT ALREADY! Yes its annoying when YOU PEOPLE have nothing better to do then bitch about shit like this. Hey I know, how about I call the cops on you for your gardener waking me up at 7 am to do your yard! Same shit!!! Lmmfao!!! Hahaha…. BTW, I own my home and am not in an apartment! Okay, enjoy life and if you want super quiet all the time, then simply move into a retirement home!
People like you playing so loud at your house you can hear the music booming from 3 blocks away is insane. I work late and dont get off until 5am and the music is booming so loud it hurts my ears at 9am in the morning. Stop thinking about only yourself. Not everybody has your same schedule and not everyone likes your music. Life is not all about you. I own my house and dont need neighbors like you next to me being disrespectful.
Why don’t you get a pair of headphones or can’t you afford them with your house payment loser. I don’t like your music, its not all about you millenial.
Thank you police officers! Thank you this post! Saved my sleep last night. I was suffering from some events at night once a while since I moved to this new neighborhood. I knew the events could be cross the street from our community not within our community. Last night at 12am, somebody was still singing and yelling with Mic very aloud with a music ban, with a lot audiences as well. I searched on my phone to see what I could do about it. I saw this post so I was aware I could stopping this by calling police. The call was picked immediately, by then music was a little down the singer stopped singing. I worried maybe it was too late to catch them since they might play enough after hours. After about 15 minutes, it was completely quiet. Thank God! I made it!
I now for years have called the Phoenix PD, to report the live bands that play outside in my neighbors yard until at least 2-3am. On Christmas eve they played until 4:58am. Not once has this homeowner recieved a ticket, and usually the police do not show up until the party is beginning to dissipate. I am a nurse and work weekends late at night and early in the am. I feel if this homeowner would have been ticketed they may no longer be a problem. So whomever wrote this piece, need to realize, the PD has not done a darn thing to help this situation. AGAIN tonight the band is playing again.
WHEN IS THE PHOENIX PD GONNA DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE LOUD NOISES LIKE FIREWORKS GOING OFF ALL THE TIME IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD? PROBABLY NEVER! THESE PEOPLE DON’T WHO ARE MY NEIGHBORS DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE NEIGHBORE AROUND THEM. IF THEY DID THEY WOULDN’T SETTING OFF FIREWORKS YEAR ROUND.THE PHOENIX P.D. SEEM LIKE THEY DON’T GIVE A DAMN. MAYBE THEY WOULD IF IT WERE THEM HAVING A HEART ATTACK OR STROKE DUR TO THE LOUD BANGS ALMOST EVERY NIGHT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. WHICH IS THE ALTA VISTA DISTRICT NOT TO MENTION THE CARS RACING ALMOST EVERY NIGHT!
