Panera Bread opened last month in the former home of Corner Bakery & Café, located in the Camelback Colonnade shops at 1949 E. Camelback Road. Corner Bakery, a member of restaurant franchise group Blue Mountain Cafes, closed that restaurant and two other Valley locations in December 2017.

Panera bought out the Scottsdale-based Paradise Bakery operation in 2009. Additional Panera Bread locations include the southwest corner of 12th Street and Glendale Avenue (formerly Paradise Bakery), and the southeast corner of Central Avenue and Thomas Road.

Panera positions itself as healthy comfort food, with bread baked fresh on site every morning, and poultry and pork raised without antibiotics on its salads and sandwiches. The menu also incorporates seasonal flavors and whole grains. The company has made a public a commitment to removing or not using artificial additives (flavors, sweeteners, preservatives and colors from artificial sources) in its food.
