Longtime Phoenix attorney Dean Wolcott has been appointed as Justice of the Peace for the Arcadia-Biltmore Precinct to fill the vacancy of former Judge Steve Sarkis, who resigned in July.

Wolcott, who has served in the justice courts as a pro tem judge for four years, was selected today in a unanimous vote by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.

“These appointments are always difficult,” Supervisor Andy Kunasek said. “We had a number of candidates. I just felt it would be best to get a highly qualified candidate who could hit the ground running and not need to get up to speed. Dean Wolcott is extremely qualified and has served this community so well.”

Wolcott served in the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for nearly 30 years, both as a prosecutor and in the civil division. Wolcott, like Sarkis, is a Democrat. He began his duties on Sept. 14.
