The SNAP-Ed program of the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension in Maricopa County will present “Gardening in the Desert,” a free event for all ages, 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the North Mountain Visitor Center, 12950 N. 7th St.

The free event, which focuses on native plants, is geared toward children and adults alike. Activities include a corn hoe, scavenger hunt and games. Native seeds information and native food recipes will be available.

A gardening activity is included for the first 40 children who sign up by e-mailing Paula at pskillicorn@email.arizona.edu. The activity involves planting seeds in a pot to take home.
