In June, the Madison Elementary School District held its groundbreaking for the rebuild of the Rose Lane Elementary School campus, located at the northeast corner of Rose Lane and 12th Street in North Central Phoenix. With design by Grace Design Studios (formerly GHC-Orcutt Winslow) and general contracting from McCarthy Building Companies Inc. (McCarthy), this preschool through fourth-grade campus is set to be fully transformed by summer 2027.

“The groundbreaking event marks an exciting new chapter in the legacy of Madison Rose Lane Elementary,” said Madison Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Guerin. “We are deeply grateful to Orcutt Winslow and McCarthy for their thoughtful collaboration with our community on this project – ensuring that the heart and history of Rose Lane is honored throughout the process. Together, we are building a state-of-the-art school that will inspire future generations through a vibrant commitment to visual and performing arts.”

Home to more than 600 students, Madison Rose Lane Elementary offers a signature program focused on the visual and performing arts. The campus rebuild – part of the 2023 bond approved by voters in the community – will be completed in phases, featuring a new 47,603-square-foot, two-story classroom building with 28 classrooms, a dance studio, music room and an interactive library with collaboration spaces throughout. The project will also include separate kindergarten and physical education buildings along with a new dynamic 8,969-square-foot multipurpose performing arts venue that will double as a gymnasium and cafeteria, featuring an indoor-outdoor stage that opens to a raised exterior amphitheater. The campus will also add a new preschool wing to support the school’s Madison Adventure Club (MAC) program for before and after school care. Once complete, the campus will include baseball and softball fields, expanded parking and a district-wide professional development space for training and staff wellness.

The newly transformed Rose Lane campus will finish construction in time for the start of the 2027-28 school year, bringing to life imaginative new learning spaces and facilities that inspire artistic learning for the Rose Lane Rockets. Along the way, Grace Design Studios and McCarthy are planning multiple opportunities for students to get an inside look at how their campus is built through classroom visits, construction tours and interactive learning opportunities.
