Valley residents are invited to join the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center as it celebrates its third annual Juneteenth Festival on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The museum will commemorate Juneteenth’s legacy of community empowerment through the celebration of Black history, culture, and tradition. Juneteenth is an annual federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the last enslaved people in the United States.
Attendees can explore Carver’s historic halls and enjoy family-friendly live performances, arts and crafts, a kids’ corner and chess tournament, vendors and community booths and food.
Admission is free and open to all. Registration is encouraged. For more information, visit www.thecarveraz.org/events/the-carvers-3rd-annual-juneteenthfreedom-festival.
