Seniors earn college credit
In February, Valley Lutheran High School announced that 83 percent of its graduating seniors are earning college credit before receiving their diploma, which they said is a distinctive academic achievement among Phoenix-area high schools.
“While many schools focus heavily on Advanced Placement (AP) programs, Valley Lutheran offers both AP and dual enrollment pathways,” leadership said. “As a Silver Level AP Honor Roll school, Valley maintains strong AP performance while also partnering with Grand Canyon University and Concordia University Nebraska to provide official college credit through dual enrollment courses.”
Unlike AP courses, which require students to pass a national exam to earn credit, dual enrollment allows students to earn college credit through successful course completion. Valley’s university partnerships boast a 98 percent transfer rate, offering families both academic momentum and financial value.
“By focusing on what is wisest for students – not simply prestige rankings – Valley Lutheran continues to prepare graduates for success in college and beyond,” the school added.

Xavier athletes sign Grant in Aid agreements
It was an exciting morning at Xavier College Preparatory when seven Xavier student-athletes signed their Grant in Aid agreements. The event was the culmination of many years of hard work and commitment to their respective sports. The event was held at Xavier’s Virginia G. Piper Performing Arts Center in February.
Previously called National Letters of Intent, Grant in Aid is a financial scholarship for a student-athlete to help pay for college. The Grant in Aid can be a full or partial scholarship. According to the NCAA, less than two percent of high school students are awarded a college athletic scholarship.
Sister Lynn Winsor, BVM, CMAA, vice principal for Activities and athletic director, spoke to the young women, their families, and coaches at the occasion, expressing pride in their accomplishments.
The student-athletes and their colleges are Adriana Lauterborn, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Swim); Raleigh Kaul, Marquette University (Swim); Hayley Carrillo, St. Ambrose University (Dance); Kennedy Frakes, The University of Arizona (Cross Country & Track); Natalia Lamadrid, University of Northern Colorado (Golf); Courtney Ryan, Kansas State University (Crew); and Lucia Hansen, United States Coast Guard Academy (Soccer).

After a successful first exam and passing a second critical assessment, Madison Highland Prep students Fernando Peralta, Kane Rivera, Michael Syntax, Angel Urias and Micah Wild have completed the RECF Engineering Industry Certification (submitted photo).
Students complete industry certification
Five standout students from Madison Highland Prep have reached a major milestone by successfully completing the RECF Engineering Industry Certification. The students – Fernando Peralta, Kane Rivera, Michael Syntax, Angel Urias and Micah Wild – achieved this distinction through a rigorous, two-step process.
Building on the momentum of their first exam success in November, these students have now passed the second critical assessment, officially certifying their expertise in high-level STEM competencies. This achievement highlights the students’ personal dedication and the high caliber instruction provided by the faculty at Madison Highland Prep.
The Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation developed this certification program to address the global demand for skilled professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. To receive the full credential, students must first pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam before choosing specialized modules to secure their certification. By earning these credentials, these five students have not only validated their expertise but also significantly enhanced their competitive edge for college admissions and career opportunities.
