Save Our Mountains Foundation hosts a free Holiday Hike toward the base of Shaw Butte, leaving off from the North Mountain Visitor Center the morning of Saturday, Dec. 19.

Some of the hikes will go only as far as the dam north of Shaw Butte and for young children only as far as the wetland area west of the center. One hike will go to the top of Shaw Butte. The hikes will be geared toward the varying abilities of the participants. Volunteers from the center will lead the hikes.

Register at the front desk earlier in the week or 30 minutes before the start of each hike. The long hike to the top of Shaw Butte sets off at 8 a.m. The two shorter hikes begin at 9 a.m. All leave off from the Exhibit Hall area of the center.

Upon the completion of the hikes, the center will host a sing-a-long at 10:30 a.m., featuring the musical talents of Eric Laubach and possibly other musicians who will lead the Christmas Sing-A-Long of favorite tunes.

There also will be a surprise visit from Santa Claus for the little hikers at the center starting sometime around noon. Santa will help draw the winners of the Prize Drawing; raffle tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 13 for $10, and can be purchased in the Gift Shoppe.
