Breast cancer strikes more than 230,000 women every year, and over 4,500 of them will reside in Arizona. If found in the early stages, women have close to 100-percent chance of surviving.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Don’t Be a Chump! Check for a Lump! is seeking donations to help sustain its valuable education program all year long to teach women the facts—like the fact that less than 10 percent of breast cancer is hereditary with 90 percent caused by lack of proper nutrition, lifestyle choices, toxins in our environment and other unknown factors.

In addition, the nonprofit organization provides direct assistance to women undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer with a free new wig through its Wig Out program. The nonprofit allows up to $250 for a wig paid directly to the wig shop, not the client.

Don’t Be a Chump! Check for a Lump! has assisted more than 700 women with a free wig since its inception, and helped 267 women with breast cancer obtain wigs in 2015. The organization is now assisting close to one woman a day with a free new wig.
