The North Phoenix Kiwanis Club hosts its 25th-annual Walk-A-Thon, featuring 40-plus teams that are recruited for gaining pledges, collecting buckets of coins, and actually participating in the walk.

This walk takes place 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Metrocenter Mall, 9617 N. Metro Parkway W., and proceeds are shared between the individual team organizations and the Kiwanis Club. Walkers set off inside the mall near the food court.

The club supports community nonprofit organizations such as MIKID, Sunshine Angels and Kitchen on the Street, as well as the Washington Elementary School District through monetary contributions and volunteer events.

Supporters have their choice of several teams, including teams from all 32 WESD schools, Royal Dance Works, AZ Power Softball Club, the Key Clubs from Central and Sunnyslope High Schools, and the JROTC unit from Thunderbird High School.

In addition, corporate sponsors are still being sought. Sponsorship amounts range from $250 to $2,500. Donations are 100 percent tax deductible.
