Worn, frayed and faded American flags will be “retired” by members of the Boy Scouts of America–Central District during a ceremony Sunday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. at North Mountain Park, 10608 N. 7th St.

Some of the older, worn-out flags were contributed by veterans, while 121 flags were collected by local scouts, including members from Troop 329, during the Fourth of July celebration at Royal Palm Park.

The U.S. Flag code states that, “the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

The Scouts will place the flags in a fire as part of the ceremony. Veterans, elected officials, scouts and their family members and the public are invited to attend.
