Construction is underway on a AAA Auto Repair Center in a strip mall in a revitalized area.

The business on 7th Street, just south of Bethany Home Road, will be 9,150 square feet and feature a 12-car service garage designed to blend seamlessly in with the existing neighborhood. It will be in a 1950s-era strip center at 5827 N. 7th St. with trendy restaurants Mora Italian, Otro Café and The Yard nearby. The building was sold and scraped in the fall except for a U-shaped, street-front monument sign that will be carefully restored and re-lighted to serve as a beacon for the AAA Auto Repair Center.

Scott Whittington, principal of Avalon Development, said it was important to his company that the unusual vernacular of the neighborhood was honored when it built a modern building with excellent amenities to serve the neighborhood “for decades to come.”

The center will offer general auto repair, oil changes and services required by the Motor Vehicle Division, as well as access trip planning at the AAA center. It is expected to open in May.
