It can be hard to determine whether an older adult is suffering from depression but you can learn warning signs and how to help someone struggling with various mental health issues at upcoming events.

The Area Agency on Aging and the National Council for Behavioral Health are teaming up to offer the Mental Health First Aid course from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Burton Barr Library at 1221 N. Central Ave. These classes will teach you how to ask people the right questions, how to identify risk factors and warning signs, how to de-escalate a crisis and a five-step action plan to help someone. You will learn how to help loved ones, neighbors, colleagues and others cope with mental health or substance abuse issues.
