Valley residents are invited to ignite the spirit of hope for patients and families at Phoenix Children’s Hospital at the 14th Annual Ignite Hope Candlelight Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 13, beginning at 3 p.m.
Gather with thousands of community members at North High School, 1101 E. Thomas Road, for a spirited celebration, then take part in a candlelit walk to Phoenix Children’s Thomas Campus, where lights will glow outside the hospital windows, spreading warmth and hope to patients.
The Ignite Hope tradition was initiated in 2012 when friends and family of Katie Wagner, a 15-year-old patient at Phoenix Children’s who had been diagnosed with cancer, organized a candlelit vigil outside her hospital window. Katie herself took part in the inaugural Ignite Hope walk. She sadly passed away the following year in September 2013. Despite this loss, the candlelight tradition continues as a tribute to her memory, aiming to bring light and hope to the lives of patients while also rallying the community to raise funds for Phoenix Children’s.
Following the 3 p.m. festival, the walk will commence at 5:30 p.m. and a 6:10 program. The cost to register beginning Dec. 1 is $40 for adults and $10 for youth. More information is available at www.pchignitehope.org.
