The Whetstine family became “Foster Failures” after meeting and caring for the gorgeous Daisy as part of the Arizona Humane Society foster program (photo courtesy of Stephanie Whetstine).
Stephanie Whetstine read a previous North Central Pet Tales about Binzer the cat, and said, “I thought I would share my story about my cat, Daisy.”
“In fall of 2006, when my daughter was in high school, we decided to volunteer together at the Arizona Humane Society,” Whetstine recalled. “My daughter was afraid of big dogs, so we decided to work with cats and small critters. We soon learned about the need for foster homes for young, sick and injured animals and decided to start fostering in October.
“Our very first foster kittens were Daisy and Midnight, and they both had upper respiratory infections. After treatment, Midnight was put up for adoption, but Daisy was still sick. We took her home for two more weeks of treatment, and became ‘Foster Failures’ (the term for fosters that end up keeping their foster pets) and decided to adopt her.
“Now, 18 years and hundreds of foster kitties later (along with a couple more ‘failures’) Daisy is still our sweet, loving and special kitty. She spends most of her time on our bed snuggled up on her heating pad, but she fills our home with meows, and kisses – and we never need an alarm clock!”
