Fresh, wholesome bread and bagels baked daily with real, simple ingredients and a whole lot of love is something to savor. And for lovers of the loaf, there is good news: delicious bread products made in this exact fashion by Barrio Bread are now featured on multiple menus at Arizona restaurants and are available in markets and retail locations.
Barrio Bread began as a passion project for anthropologist-turned-educator-turned-James-Beard-Award-winning baker Don Guerra. With humble beginnings baking out of his home and selling fresh, naturally fermented artisan loaves out of the back of his car, Guerra’s community-supported bakery has grown to include two locations in Arizona (Tucson and Gilbert) as well as his newest venture – Barrio Bagel & Slice, an elevate approach to drive-thru dining.
Guerra says he is passionate about connecting the network of farmers, millers, wholesale buyers and consumers to support one another and build a resilient and diverse local grain chain. North Central residents can find the bread in and around the area at Arizona Wilderness Miracle Mile in Phoenix, Bacanora, Huarachi’s Taqueria and Nelson’s Meat + Fish in Phoenix.
