Upward for Children and Families, a nonprofit dedicated to providing education and support for children with and without disabilities, is expanding its inclusive programs to offer opportunities for medically fragile children and their families. Through its Arizona Department of Education-registered school, inclusive childcare program, and state-of-the-art therapy clinic, Upward AZ aims to meet the unique needs of every child in a nurturing, safe and accessible environment.

“Our mission is to create a community where every child feels supported, empowered, and celebrated,” said Alisa Chatinsky, interim CEO of Upward AZ. “We’re committed to ensuring that children with complex medical needs and disabilities have access to top-tier education, adaptive resources, and inclusive play spaces. We want families to feel confident that Upward is a place where their children can grow, learn, and thrive.”

The organization’s specialized school serves medically fragile children ages 3 to 21, with Arizona-certified special education teachers, small class sizes and a team of aides. The program provides on-site physical, occupational and speech therapy, led by licensed therapists and in-house assistants to support students throughout the school day. Qualified families can receive financial support through the Arizona Department of Education’s Empowerment Scholarship.

With the next open enrollment period underway, Upward AZ invites families to explore the space at 6306 N. 7th St. Tours provide an opportunity for families to experience the inclusive setting, observe classrooms in action, and learn about the enrollment process, which is designed to support each child’s unique goals and needs.
