A new pet grooming business has opened near 19th and Northern avenues, offering discounted rates for local rescue groups, seniors, military personal and public safety officers.

Puppy Love Pet Stylist is the vision of Melissa Rovner, who received her training from PetSmart in 1992, first as a groomer, then a salon manager, and finally a trainer at the PetSmart Academy, teaching students the basics of dog grooming.

Rovner left PetSmart in 2008 and she and her husband, Richard, launched a mobile grooming business. Eventually the business outgrew the van and a Puppy Love Pet Stylist grooming salon was born.

Amanda Lippert, who helped with the mobile unit, manages the new salon, which opened in October. Lippert completed training with PetSmart and earned a degree in veterinary technology in 2006.

Rovner and Lippert have more than 39 years of combined experience, with knowledge in every aspect of the job. Services include the basic bath-and-brush to hand-scissored show dogs. The salon also offers nail filing, tidy trimming, and shampoos and conditioners for dogs with sensitive skin. Cat grooming services also are available.

Puppy Love Pet Stylist is located at 7828 N 19th Ave., Suite 17. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 602-841-7333.
