Summer is a busy time for St. Vincent de Paul Society and those it serves. July, in particular, is a difficult month as the number of volunteers dwindles and the need grows. There are two ways you can help out.

As summer heats up, many regular volunteers shift schedules or go on vacation. Just a few hours a week or a month can make a big difference. Volunteers are needed to serve breakfast or dinner at St. Vincent de Paul’s Chris Becker Dinning Room, located on 10th Avenue just south of Hatcher Road. Service hours are 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday for “brunch,” and 4-6:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday for dinner. You must be at least 14 years old and accompanied by an adult to serve in the dining room.

For more information on this dining room, contact Norma Carillo at 602-261-6863 or ncarillo@svdp-phx-az.org. To sign up for a shift online, go to www.stvincentdepaul.net and click on “Volunteer.”

July is also the month that all Bashas’ and Food City grocery store in the Valley host the annual Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive, benefitting St. Vincent de Paul. Through July 31, peanut butter and jelly paper pin-ups are for sale at the registers for $3 each. In addition, pre-packed “Food Bank Bags” with two jars of peanut butter, crackers and cereal will be available for purchase and donation for $12 each.
